As energy consumption becomes more of a “hot button” issues, building codes in many cities and towns are becoming ore strict with regard to building design and construction.  While we are not at the Net Zero Home stage yet, see seem to be heading in that direction.

Across the building product spectrum, we can see energy efficient products become more commonplace.  Examples include LED lighting, energy efficient appliances, heavily insulated windows and doors and more.  In designing homes that meet rigorous energy standards, spray foam insulation has become a key focus of architects and builders.

“All-in-one” systems designed by architects specify spray foam products to lessen the heat transfer int heir designs.  The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that roughly one half of a building’s energy leaks can be traced to lack of thermal insulation and air flow.  Spray foam creates a tighter seal to a building envelope, which drives energy savings.  And the fact that spray foam expands during installation means it creates a “monolithic seal” with less labor and material.

Spray foam manufacturers continue to innovate with the environment in mind.  Materials now used to apply foam have “Low Global Warming Potential” (LGWP) and are being mandated in design standards and building codes.
